“All manner of drumming has the ability to put us in touch with our own natural rhythms, the rhythms of the earth, and the rhythms of the people we choose to drum with.” Madisyn Taylor on DailyOM.
Middle Eastern Drum Circle
With JoAnn Nelson
Join us for a monthly drum circle gathering. You will learn basic drumming techniques for the Doumbek, a Middle Eastern goblet drum, and practice as you learn. You will be provided with handouts for home practice. Bring drums (Doumbeks only) if you have them, but there will be a couple of drums to borrow and share, so come even if you don’t have one of your own!
Both men and women are welcome at the drum circle! Beginners and experienced drummers welcome!
JoAnn Nelson has been a student of Middle Eastern music, dance, and culture for over 40 years. She has studied belly dancing with many internationally known professionals and directed a performance group in Rockford, IL. Playing the doumbek came naturally as she has been a musician and music teacher and plays several instruments. She now enjoys retirement in the North woods in Tomahawk and drumming for belly dancing.
Cost is $10 per session
