What is Mindfulness Meditation?
Mindfulness meditation is a form of meditation in which you use your breath to bring your attention to the present moment. It sounds simple, but the results of Mindfulness meditation can be profound.
Research at several medical institutions, including the University of Massachusetts and the University of Wisconsin, show that Mindfulness meditation can have a long-term effect on brain functioning that results in a reduction in anxiety and stress.
Where does Mindfulness Meditation originate?
Mindfulness meditation has ancient roots in Zen Buddhism, and became popular when Jon Kabat-Zinn started a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at the University of Massachusetts in 1979. Since then it has gained in popularity.
