Class Levels

Beginners

Beginner classes are gentle progressive series that explore the fundamentals of yoga movement, simple breath awareness, relaxation, and concentration. We will explore how to do foundational asanas (postures), adaptations of those asanas, simple breath awareness and guided relaxation. Whether you are new to yoga, or have been practicing for years, these classes are an excellent foundation for general wellness for people of all ages and as cross-training for high school, college and adult athletes. These class series are applicable for beginners and are especially well-suited to maturing adults who are interested in maintaining strength, stamina and flexibility in classes with a strong focus on protecting joints.

Intermediate

You already know the foundational yoga postures and you feel ready to add new and occasionally more challenging postures, creative flows, and more refined breathing practices. The pace of these classes may be faster. Your teacher will facilitate deeper self-awareness, focus and concentration.

Advanced

You are now an experienced practitioner. You know how to do postures and you are ready to add more challenging postures, creative and challenging flows, and more refined breathing practices. The physical intensity in this level is stronger. Some series may include leg balances, arm balances and inversions, all safely and effectively sequenced. It will be noted when pranayama, chanting or meditation are part of the series. The pace of these classes may be faster. Your teacher will continue to help you facilitate deeper self-awareness, focus and concentration.

Master

These class series are geared toward experienced yoga students, teachers and teacher training graduates who want to go deeper in their study and practice of yoga. The general intentions will vary with the class series theme.

Class series focused on advanced asana will require that you practice yoga regularly and have an excellent degree of fitness.

Other series will require less physical work but a greater ability and interest in working with your breath, mind or sound. Yoga philosophical studies and chanting will also be offered at regular intervals.

The Master class series are a great choice for students seeking an environment for self-exploration and deep inner practice with a community of like-minded practitioners. Some of the master class series will be offered as continuing education for yoga teachers.
